Statements from Cesare Chesini just right after the race:
"I came here targeting the GC. Novak and I had the task of defending the overall. It was a tough race, as is often the case in stage races. Stage 2 was definitely the decisive one, when the GC really took shape. After that it was all about staying focused."
"You can never relax, and I was tense until the final 3 km, when we entered the safety zone for time gaps."
"This is certainly a high-level victory against very experienced opponents."
