Speciale Gravel: The Making of a steel masterpiece in Milano

In 2023, we re-established our framebuilding facilities onsite at our Milano HQ for the first time since 1981. Now, we are excited to introduce the Speciale Gravel — 100% handmade in Milano.
From raw tube sets to the finished bike, every inch of the Speciale Gravel is masterfully crafted right here at our Milano headquarters. Under the Cinelli factory roof sits our sister company, Columbus, where steel tube sets have been carefully made with precision and pride for more than 100 years.

The process begins in the cutting section, where tubes are cut precisely to size. They then undergo Columbus' proprietary cold-drawing process to achieve the exact diameters and butting profiles required. Once prepared, the tubes are welded together with the correct geometry by our master framebuilders.
After welding, a soaping process removes any remaining deoxidant. Before painting, each frame is thoroughly inspected to ensure a smooth, even surface.

Painting is carried out by specialists with decades of experience in the cycling industry. Once complete, the frame moves to the assembly area for the finale — build and setup.

Initially designed around the Nemo Gravel, and following a complete rethink of construction alongside extensive weight optimization, we have shaved nearly 200g off the frame weight, achieving 2120g. It features evolved Columbus Spirit tubing, a Columbus Components Divide Integrated Carbon Fork, and a universal derailleur hanger.
Fully integrated internal routing presents a clean aesthetic suitable for both mechanical and electronic groups, in 1x or 2x setups. With dropper post compatibility and tire clearance up to 29x2.2”, few technical trails are beyond the capabilities of the Speciale Gravel.
Modern gravel, redefined with Italian soul and Columbus steel.
